Douche of the Week: The Westboro Baptist Church

dowbaptist1Remember that oath you took when you first signed up? You vowed to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America. Sounds like a no-brainer – these are the basic tenets of egalitarian democracy. Free speech, free religion…what could possibly be the downside? In your calculations, you probably never considered that you might be protecting the right of people to PROTEST YOUR MILITARY FUNERAL.

That’s why this week Ranger Up salutes the esteemed members of the Westboro Baptist Church, who have been picketing military funerals for about a year now. Armed with signs that bear such heartfelt messages as “God hates the U.S.A.”, “Thank God for IEDs”, and “God killed your son”, these wastes of space gather outside military funerals and shout insults at the mourners in an attempt to disrupt the services.

dowbaptist2Their rationale (if it may be dignified as such) goes something like this: 1) God hates homosexuals (reference their “classy” sitehttp://www.godhatesfags.com/), 2) the US tolerates homosexuality, 3) God punishes the US by killing its soldiers, ergo 4) these soldiers deserved to die and thus do not deserve a respectful military funeral. In short, “Military funerals are pagan orgies of idolatrous blasphemy where they pray to the dunghill gods of Sodom and play taps to a fallen fool.” Clearly.

Whether these people have the intellectual capacity to understand that they are protesting the funerals of the very men and women who fought and died to protect their right to do exactly that remains unknown. We do hope, however, that the irony’s not lost on them.

dowbaptist3Some other fun Westboro Baptist Church facts:

- WBC members wrote letters to Saddam Hussein praising his regime, and traveled to Baghdad in February 2003 to protest the impending US invasion.

- WBC members traveled to West Virginia on 15 January 2006, waving signs that read “Thank God for dead miners” to protest the memorial service for the victims of the Sago Mine Disaster.

dowbaptist4- They hate America (http://www.godhatesamerica.com/).

-They hate…uh…Sweden (http://www.godhatessweden.com/).

You know what else God hates? When corn gets stuck in his teeth (http://www.godhatescornstuckinhisteeth.com)

It takes a whole lot of work to make Scientologists look smart, but you assholes have done it.

Welcome to Douchebagistan.

I’m at Leavenworth, down the road from these morons. Calling them a “douche” is disrespecting something that actually has a purpose in life. They scream and shout until you get in their face, eyeball-to-eyeball. Then the squealing starts.

If you’ve got a Patrot Guard unit around, call them up. If you don’t, then start a chapter.

I’ll defend to the death an adult’s right to say what they want under the Constitution. What I won’t defend, and should be changed, is an adult’s right to make their kids participate in this crap. Just because their parents screwed them up doesn’t give them the right to screw up their own kids. Child abuse isn’t leaving your kid in the car while you run into the store for a sixer; it’s making your kid stand in the street holding a sign they don’t understand and probably wouldn’t support if they had any choice.

    First off..

I think that this church should be burned to the ground with all of these f*cking nutjobs inside of it.

    Secondly..

If there ever is a calling to have a guarded escort besides the Patriot Guard in our area, I will be there to offer my support and do what I can to keep these assholes away from grieving families so they can honor their fighting man or woman.

This pisses me off to see these people get any judicial help whatsoever. I know they are protected by Freedom of Speech and Religion, but I have to say… That is just a bit much. There is a line that you don’t cross with honoring the military dead, and they have stepped over it many times.

Maybe we should start going to the funerals of their passed elders and family members, and hold up signs that say “God hates your dead elder nutjobs and brainwashed congregation”..

These people are lucky they are even still breathing.

It is well known that cash makes us free. But how to act if someone has no money? The only one way is to get the mortgage loans or auto loan.

Makes a person wonder if “Pro-choice” would have been a better idea. Perhaps some of these people’s parents would have chosen “terminate”!

That oath we took, was to defend “…against all enemies, both foreign and domestic…” I’ll make the call! I make a motion to declare these people enemies of the citizens of the U.S. and the Constitution. Do we have a second?

I loved these guys’ counter to the WBC’s protesting. Fight fire with fire, in my opinion.

When these guys came to Blacksburg and waved their “God sent the shooter” signs at Virginia Tech, there were more counter protesters, who were louder and better organized. It was freaking awesome to see these guys visibly agitated that they could shake us up.

Unbelievable. When I first saw these f*cking numbnuts I couldn’t believe that someone hadn’t stomped the life out of these f@ckers. The fact that these numbnuts are still wasting space in this great country truly sickens me. I hope Fred Phelps and the rest of his cluster f%cks burn in hell (slowly), but not before meeting a pissed of war veteran with all the rights skills and nothing to lose.
